New streaming video database and Statistics Canada’s Real Time Remote Access (RTRA) program

Over the past two months, UBC Library has pumped up the volume of streaming and other online content. Here are some new additions:

OntheBoards.TV (New!) is a portal for viewing full-length, high-quality films of performance works by contemporary artists in dance, theater, music and other forms.  Funded by UBC Okanagan.

Audio Cine Films Digital Campus is another addition. Following a very successful trial, UBC Library has taken on an annual subscription to this resource.  The collection offers feature films from major Hollywood and international distributors, including Disney, Pixar, University Studios and more.

The Library has signed up for a trial of Statistics Canada’s Real Time Remote Access (RTRA) program. This service allows researchers to analyze Statistics Canada data that is not available for public use and is especially important while Statistics Canada Research Data Centres (RDCs) are closed. To use RTRA, researchers submit programs written in SAS statistical analysis software to be run against data held securely at Statistics Canada, with the returned output being descriptive statistics. The output is aggregated at the national or provincial level and files are returned on the same day.

The RTRA program trial will be available until July 7, 2020. Please share this news with your communities. Interested researchers can contact data librarian Jeremy Buhler for more information and to arrange access during the trial period (jeremy.buhler@ubc.ca). Unlike the Research Data Centres (RDCs), there is no application process: any UBC researcher can submit a SAS program via the library. For more information see the RTRA website (https://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/rtra/rtra), which includes a list of the surveys available for analysis (https://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/rtra/surv).
